Professional Information
Dr. Wayne Mier is a Clinical Assistant Professor; Master of Science in Medical Sciences, Program Coordinator; and Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, Program Coordinator. He teaches Medical Terminology and Healthcare Essentials, Health Professions and Healthcare Trends, and The Healthcare Systems courses. He also manages the Master of Science in Medical Sciences and Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences programs. He is also a Registered Respiratory Therapist and Pulmonary Function Technologist. Dr. Mier also assists the Healthcare Simulation Center in teaching Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and First Aid.
Dr. Mier started his career in healthcare as a Registered Respiratory Therapist and Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist. He received his BS degree in Healthcare Management from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale. After many years of working in adult critical care, diagnostics, pulmonary rehabilitation, and hospital education, he earned his Master of Arts in Education in Adult Education & Distance Learning from the University of Phoenix. Developing a passion for education, he then moved to proprietary education, working in senior academic leadership, and teaching respiratory therapy and computer science classes. Dr. Mier then received his Education Specialist degree and PhD in Computing Technology in Education from Nova Southeastern University. His dissertation study was investigating the Use and Effectiveness of Principles Learned in an Online Faculty-training Program.
Dr. Mier’s primary research interests include online learning, faculty development, student retention and success, and student advising. Working at JU has allowed him to work with students, faculty, and his areas of research interest.
